Hamster Cages and Other Hamster Equipment should be
properly designed and intended for the purpose. From the hamster wheel to
the hamster ball. This does not mean equipment can’t be home made but no
lead or painted parts should be included as the paint if gnawed may poison
your pet. If you do decide to make some equipment from wood do not use
cedar or other resinous woods as this may also poison your hamster.
Cage Equipment:
Hamster Wheel. Preferably a solid wheel with a solid back
or an external wheel. Designed to prevent injury through trapping or
pinching.
Hamster Cottage or Bedroom. The hamster cottage should be
either a disposable box or one that will withstand hot water for thorough
cleaning.
Drinking Bottle. Preferably externally mounted, to prevent
accidental spillage. With a stainless steel drinking tube with a ball
valve stopper.
Food Bowl. Shallow enough for easy access. Made from either
Stainless steel or ceramic with smooth rounded edges.
Tubes. For connecting separate compartments or just for a
change of environment. Either hard plastic with anti-gnaw rings, stainless
steel wire or disposable.
Ladders. Made from steel wire to prevent gnawing.
